About the fighters
Junior dos Santos Almeida is a Brazilian mixed martial arts fighter. He is a former UFC heavyweight champion. Currently ranked #7 in the UFC. Holder of many records, he’s a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is considered one of the best fighters of the heavyweight division. He represents American Top Team.
Dos Santos was one of the best heavyweights of his era. He had the longest winning streak in this UFC division. Since his debut, he has won nine straight victories, won the title and had a title defense. Junior has knocked out fighters such as Fabricio Werdum, Gabriel Gonzaga and Kane Velasquez, for which he received Performance of the Night bonuses. Fights against Mark Hunt, Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis earned Fight of the Night awards.
Francis Ngannou is a Cameroonian mixed martial arts fighter. He competes in the UFC heavyweight division and is currently ranked number one there. He is a former title challenger. Holder of the toughest punching bag in the UFC. A dangerous knockout puncher – he fought most of his fights in the first round. Trains in MMA Factory Paris and Xtreme Couture gyms.
At the end of 2016 there was a bout with Anthony Hamilton. Ngannou earned his first UFC bonus and his total fee for one night was $82,000. Not bad considering how much he could have earned had he stayed in Cameroon.
“What am I going to spend the fee on? When I started, I had nothing. When you start earning money, you want to buy everything. But I have a different goal. First, I want to help my family, and then I want to do charity work in my country. I want to enable children in Cameroon like me to realise their dreams. If I achieve my goal, it will allow me to help the people in my country who have dreams but don’t have the opportunity to achieve them.
A year later, the whole world knew about the new top heavyweight in the UFC. It took Ngannu beating former UFC champion Andrei Orlovski and knocking out former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem. The knockout of the fight against Overim was voted knockout of the year.
It’s hard to convey the depth of Ngannou’s personality and his immense power without doing a thorough job with the stats. Although the Cameroonian has managed to lose twice in the UFC, hasn’t defended the belt yet and is only a day as champion – his records and numbers look legendary. To understand the magnitude of his accomplishments, we decided to break down Francis’ statistical accomplishments into two categories – current and historical.
Ngannou’s performances are short but unforgettable. Only twice did Francis finish his winning fights in the second round. All other bouts were finished within two minutes. He has five Performance of the Night bonuses to his credit. He received them in fights against Anthony Hamilton, Andrei Orlovsky, Curtis Blades, Junior dos Santos and Jairzinho Rosenstruyk.
Francis Ngannou defeated Junior Dos Santos in the first round in the second minute by TKO (TKO – punches, R1, 1:11)
