On August 6, Rafael Nadal and Lloyd George Harris will play in the third round match of the ATP-500 competition in Washington (USA). The start is not earlier than 02:00 Moscow time. Experts in their forecasts give preference to Nadal – the odds on his victory is 1.26. On the success of Harris you can bet for 3.65.
Lloyd George Harris
The much-loved North American tournament series on the eve of the US Open is in full swing. The ATP City Open is taking place in Washington this week. Rafael Nadal, the main contender for the trophy, started from the second round and managed to win.
The Spaniard made it through to the third round, where his opponent will be South Africa’s Lloyd George Harris. He is a fairly young tennis player, who holds the bar and is consistently ranked in the top 100, but can never take the next step. And he keeps getting knocked out in the early stages of the majors.
The tennis players have never met each other before. They have only played one match each and it is all the more surprising that the world number three from Spain has had a far more difficult start than the South African, who is ranked 50th in the world.
Nadal faced American Jack Sock less than twenty-four hours ago and as we suspected, it was not an easy match. The Spaniard won the match only in the decisive tie-break (6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (1), and lost in the third game with a break. And all this despite the fact that Sock is now in the bottom 100 of the ATP rankings.
Harris, on the other hand, managed in less than an hour. Tennis Sandgren withdrew, citing injury, with the score at 6-4, 1-0 in favour of Lloyd George. The South African’s main trump card, his classy serve, cannot be overlooked. In the first set alone with Sandgren he had as many as 10 aces.
Despite being ranked 50th in the world rankings, 2021 can be regarded as the most successful year of Harris’s career. The 24-year-old tennis player had already won 20 games in early August, and his hard court record was even more impressive, 14-7. However, this did not help Lloyd George at the Atlanta tournament, losing 6-7 (2), 6-1, 2-6 to Australian Jordan Thompson in the first round.
For Nadal, the match against Sok was the first in almost two months. His previous official game was in the semi-finals of the French Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard missed the entire grass season and did not go to the Olympics in Tokyo. The official reason was an injury.
From the scoreline between Nadal and Soca, it is clear that the Spaniard is not ready for the hard part of the season in the best possible way. Simply put, the tournament in Washington will be a kind of training session for him. The main thing is the US Open, Rafa knows how to prepare himself for key starts. And now he will not force himself.
Harris is not in ideal form either, but if he serves his first serve he will not suffer a defeat. Our money is once again on Nadal’s opponent at the 4.5 game plus handicap and we hope that the South African will not burn out before stepping up to the court. The Spaniard will not have it easy then and will have to put in a real effort for every break.
Betting on Rafael Nadal v Lloyd George Harris in Washington on August 6, 2021
The bid for the Washington tournament is of such a level that Nadal should take the trophy even if he’s not in top form. However, the Spaniard’s first match called that thesis into question, and it should not be easy for him in the second game either. Perhaps, Rafa even needs to go through some tough tests before the start of more prestigious competitions.
Betting: Harris wins with a handicap (+4.5 game) for 1.67.
