Blessing Oborududu is a Nigerian freestyle wrestler. She is ranked second in the world among women wrestlers and she won an Olympic medal at the Olympics. She also won ten African championships from 2010-2020.
Oborududu’s career
Oborududu was invited to the national camp when she noticed her talents. Her parents were at first against it. They told her that wrestling is for boys, but she wanted to wrestle anyway.
She loves a wrestler from Nigeria. He was the first person to win an Olympic wrestling medal from Nigeria. She has won medals for 11 years except in 2012 when she was at the Olympics.
She competed in the 63kg freestyle category at the 2012 Olympics. She was beat by Monika Mihalik but then she won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
She competed in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. She lost to Soronzonboldyn Batzeg. She won the gold medal at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games. In 2018, she won a gold medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
A woman won a silver medal at the Poland Open 2021. She competed for Nigeria in 2020, and she qualified for the 2020 Olympics.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics
On 3rd August 2021, she won a silver medal in the women’s 68kg weight category at the 2020 Olympics. She was also Nigeria’s first Olympic wrestler to win a medal and their first Olympian to win a silver medal.
